I have spent 20 years working on my family history. I spent a good 19 years focusing on my maternal side. I have only just begun really looking at the paternal side.

I started this because of my Granny. She was my favorite growing up and it wasn't until she passed, that I found out I was hers too. When I started on this journey, it was so her memory wouldn't be forgotten. I wanted my children to know "Granny". But, as I researched her life (and continue to), I find that she wasn't just a grandmother. But she was a woman who had secrets, who was three different people. She was a mother, a grandmother, but most importantly, she was Charlotte. This woman that grew up with unimaginable wealth, who married the love of her life, would end up, angry, closed off and confused about the changing times. She was literally raised to sweep family secrets under the carpet. Starting from her biological grandfather, her biological mother, her father's drinking problems, the death of her first husband, the horrors with her second husband and truly unmentionables. She was raised when women were just starting to get rights. Her aunts went to college, only for them to be housewives. They had education, doctorate degrees, master's degrees, but were not taken seriously in the workplace. They were given jobs, like librarians and teachers. Which both are noble professions, however when you go to school to be medical doctor and are not taken seriously, or only known because of who your father was or your husband, it was discouraging.

So, I wanted to give more. Give them all a voice. And remember, also, men were not permitted to show emotion, as that was a sign of weakness. I have seen, in my research, so much pain and loss from my ancestorial uncles but crying was weak. Not being married was a weakness, not producing children was a weakness.

Here, women, men and transgender are all treated equal.

One further note, there will be no hate on this page. This page is LGBT+ friendly. Any and all information given on this site is for historical and entertainment purposes only. There may be things brought up that are questionable in today's world. I am not reporting on today's world, but yesteryear.
